TEXAS INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION
WHEN: MONDAY, MARCH 2, 2020 1:30 p. m.
WHERE: 1805 W. INDIANA, MIDLAND
INFO: The Aaron Estes Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, The Midland County Historical Society, and the Haley Memorial Library will host the annual "Toast to Texas" on MONDAY, MARCH 2, 2020 in observance of the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence from Mexico in 1836.
This spirited, annual observance will begin when the faithful assemble for the ceremonial reading of Joe B. Frantz's "toast" using shot
glasses filled with water drawn from beneath Midland County soil. A ceremonial Texas flag that has been flown over the Alamo, the Texas State Capitol, and the birthplaces of Texas independence,
Washington-on-the-Brazos, Goliad, and Mission La Bahia will be raised on the pole at the front lawn of the Haley Library as re-enactors fire a volley of muskets. The pledge to the Texas flag is recited by the gathered crowd after the 2:00 p.m. "toast". A short program will precede the toast beginning at 1:30 p.m.
The observance is open to all who wish to participate, no admission is charged.
