The Arts Council of Midland’s mission is “enriching lives with the arts through community-wide advocacy, education, outreach and promotion.” Our goals are to serve as the focal point of advocacy, coordination, promotion, and scheduling of the arts in Midland; to advance the arts in Midland through Subgranting to qualified local arts organizations; to be of economic benefit to Midland; and to facilitate art education.

FMH Sculpture Garden @ Arts Council of Midland –
Begun with a dedication in December 2014, with the assistance of the FMH Foundation, this project has expanded to include four monumentally-scaled sculptures at 1506 W. Illinois.  Future plans include additional sculptures, landscaping and a project brochure.

Artist Community Market-
Begun in 2017, Artist Community Market is an annual event for the Arts Council showcasing the creative talents of artists and makers in the Permian Basin.  The first Saturday in November, ACM opens its doors to a variety of different work and media, including: Painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, and mixed-media.  In addition, we have featured a regional chocolatier as well as performances by local and regional people.  Demonstrations, selected readings, and panel discussions are featured.  Finally a number of hands-on projects for children and adults are available, all at no charge.

Celebration of the Arts –
This weekend tribute to the visual and performing arts is designed to benefit the entire community, to increase tourism, and to raise funds for Arts Council’s operating budget. COA includes a Friday evening Premier Party (typical attendance is 500 people); Festival activities, 50+ visual artists, Arts Experience area for children and people of all ages with hands-on activities, take away projects, demonstrations and displays and performance stages.

Subgranting –
Through this program, the Arts Assembly grants funds to eligible arts projects and organizations in Midland. As of September 2015, ACM has awarded over $2.1 million in Subgrants in twenty-six years.

Visions 2019 Quarterly Exhibitions Series –

Quarterly Exhibitions series featuring regional artists in a variety of media.  Artists for 2019 include:  Herman Walker – Visions of Cowboy Country – January 25 – March 9, 2019; (Reception Friday, January 25th 5:30 – 7:30 pm) Ben Woitena: Nature of the Sublime – March 29 – June 5, 2019; (Reception Friday, March 29th 5:30 – 7:30 pm) George Smith:  Visions of a Lifetime June 15 – September 8, 2019; (Reception Sunday, June 16th 2:00 – 4:00 pm) and Joe Barrington:  Visions of a Welder’s Eye:  September 20 – December 20, 2019 (Reception Friday, September 20th 5:30 – 7:30 pm)

This calendar of cultural events is published weekly in the Midland Reporter-Telegram and on our web site; a yearly calendar of events is maintained by the Council to minimize scheduling conflicts among Midland’s arts organizations.
